Our Story
We are the Green Schools committee in Carrigaline Educate Together. We have been working together on this project since September 2015. Since then we have had some great people work alongside us and have had more join along the way.
When we first set up the group we became familiar with the Green Schools programme and were excited at the thought of starting work on the first theme of Litter and Waste. We met regularly and discussed the steps we were hoping to take in order to work towards applying for the flag. We were lucky to have some very active members who worked enthusiastically in considering all of our goals.
In our first year, we completed an environmental review and learned how our school is currently preforming in the areas of litter and waste. We began raising awareness of our campaign throughout the school, visiting classes, speaking at assemblies and making announcements on the intercom. As the year progressed we continued our hard work and became innovative in creating new ways to cut down on our waste and monitoring our litter in the school grounds.
Since returning to school in September 2016, our hard work has well and truly continued. We still meet regularly discussing any steps we still need to attend to and also thinking about whats next for CETNS. In Novemeber 2016, we held a Day of Action where we promoted the theme of Litter and Waste. This was a fantastic success and we are considering that this may become an annual event. In the coming months we will continue to monitor and evaluate our work and maintain the awareness of our goals for our students, staff and families. At this stage however we would like to say a big well done to everyone who has worked so hard in achieving our targets.
